A slightly more technical explanation of Helix3
What is a Decentralized Health Management Platform?
Let’s start with decentralized… This means that the operation of the platform is controlled by machines, paid in tokens when they successfully execute transactions based on a pre-negotiated contract. In fact, if a machine doesn’t compute the contract in agreement with consensus, they are booted from the network and lose their financial stake.
Decentralized also means that the data is stored in such a way that reference to pieces of it are stored in a blockchain.
What is a Blockchain?
In its generalist form, blockchain is a way of recording blocks of data that requires information for a previous block, in order to be able to write another block of data. Thus, the blockchain.
This has a very important benefit to users in that once a block is written, it can never be deleted. When handling sensitive data like private healthcare, we want to ensure that it cannot be tampered with. Versioning of files can be accomplished on some blockchains, but there is a permanent backup of all the different states, and who changed them.
Blockchains also provide a record of transactions that is considered immutable. These open ledgers ensure transparency and provide accurate data for auditing, compliance, and governance.
Lastly, they exchange value, using a token. The token, often referred to as crypto or alt coin is used to measure the value of certain items. The starting value of the token is set by the company that creates is, and then the members of the blockchain determine its value from there.
What is a Health Management Platform?
A health management platform is a place where members, providers, and merchants meet in a place of transparency and trust. The goal of our Health Management Platform is to transform healthcare into an ecosystem that improves on both proactive and reactive healthcare.
The core function of the platform is to be a data consolidator. We will connect patient portals, fitness devices, and IoT medical devices into a database that the member has complete control of. Our platform will be expandable to add new data sources as they come to market in this growing field.
With a strong foundation of data and controlled sharing, different modules can be built to address specific needs or problems. I’ll get more into these a little later.
We believe the biggest impact we can make on the level of healthcare is by improving global health first, so the first module to our Health Management Platform will help build the foundation for future modules. We aim to lessen the burden on reactive care while we develop other modules for our platform.
The first module is a challenge rewards application that will help motivate people to achieve or maintain their health. It is extremely important to engage our members since many times there is no immediate impact to the quality of someone’s life. When the impact is felt, it is often too late to revert the damage caused.
Our first challenge is The FitFlow Challenge that rewards members for achieving optimal range in 5 categories
- Blood Pressure
Helix3 is funding this challenge with 10,000,000 HLX, which is our cryptocurrency. When we open the sale of HLX to the public, they will cost $0.08, which means we are funding approximately $800,000 USD to get things started.
Helix3 will also match the next 10,000,000 HLX sponsored by the community up to an additional 10,000,000 HLX.
Challenges can be created by sponsors who kickstart the challenge much like HLX is doing now. If an entity believes people should have a specific range for almost any piece of data that can be collected from a patient portal, fit device or medical IoT device, they can create the rules and start the challenge by feeding it HLX.
To complete the Health Management Platform, Helix3 is creating a marketplace for our members. Initially, members will be able to spend their HLX on gift cards at over 50 merchants, and enter into sweepstakes for a Peloton and Apple Watch Series 3.
We will also have an open merchant platform where our merchants create HealthOns to be purchased in HLX by our members. HealthOns are discount coupons, much like a Groupon, but focused purely on health and wellness. Things like massages, yoga classes, gyms, weight-loss centers, and supplements.
As merchants build up HLX, they can build their own private challenges for users of their products and services, and pay out HLX as loyalty points.
What is the Vision?
With consolidated data stored securely and being used in a way that can be trusted Helix3 will begin to focus on extending access to healthcare by creating Advanced Telehealth facilities integrated with Helix3. This will help distribute the load on the current system, extend its reach, and eventually allow for testing results to be shared in real-time.
We will also focus on improving healthcare outcomes by building a personalized coaching module to help our members achieve health and wellness goals leveraging AI and deep learning. Members can opt into anonymized data sharing for the purpose of health coaching.
As more data is collected, deep learning and AI can be used to build recommendations based off of what worked for others. This can even be tracked through blood lines as well. For example, the cholesterol medication that worked for your father might also work for you.
Finally, we will create a module that will focus on the claims process. This module is aimed at reducing an identified $1T of healthcare waste in the US along. Our goal is to expand Helix3 into medical IoT in a way that these devices will verify the patient, verify the prescription and physician, and submit claims automatically once the results are transferred to our member, and the requesting physician notified. Immediate payment and full cost disclosures can also be automated through health benefit integrations.
We believe that once the potential of the Helix3 platform is showcased, other innovators will develop on the platform using our API and SDK.
What’s in for me?
Health: Too many times health is not a concern until there is a problem. Adding gamification to being healthy gives immediate rewards adding motivation and a level of challenge. There are growing challenges in the marketplace that will help members achieve their goals, in a fun way, and earn tokens that can be spent on real things.
Choice: Our Marketplace provides an open platform for merchants that sell products and services that you will need on your join to optimum health. HealthOns can be purchased for different products and services like massages, introductory fitness class, discount supplements, and trial gym memberships. HLX do not expire either 😉
Security: Not only does an attacker need to decrypt each block from beginning of time, all the way to the data they want in order read the data. If they want to change the information, they cause the hacked machine to be kicked from the system before it can make any permanent changes.
This is a huge cost deterrent to hackers, considering that it is nearly impossible to break using today’s technology and computing resources.
In full disclosure, there is a way that if 51% of the machines in the blockchain network were changed simultaneously, the wrong machines would be booted from the network. To put this in perspective, the Ethereum network that Helix is built on has nearly 25,000 nodes (and growing), requiring 12,501 nodes to have a large blockchain broken.
Transparency: Another very important piece of a blockchain is the recording of transactions. Anything that happens with the information, is recorded in a blockchain so it can never be changed. From a member’s perspective, you can look up any transaction that relates to your data and see what was done with it, and by which account.
What is a Decentralized Health Management Platform?
It’s an ultra-secure and trusted platform that can enable innovation for the problems of today and tomorrow.
