Why Helix3 is a Disruptive Healthcare Blockchain Innovation
There are a number of healthcare blockchain companies out there, so we wanted to take the opportunity to explain why we are different, by showing how we will disrupt healthcare by introducing a healthcare blockchain platform that will change the way the masses interact with their personal health information.
What is a disruptive technology?
According to Wikipedia “In business, a disruptive innovation is an innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market-leading firms, products, and alliances.”
From a more fundamental perspective, I prefer a version of Clayton Christensen’s idea that disruptive technology allows a whole new population of consumers at the bottom of a market, access to a product or service that was historically only accessible to consumers with a lot of money or a lot of skill.
A great example is the computer. When computers were invented, mainframes were the size of buildings and cost millions of dollars. Only the very rich could afford to have one. Eventually the PC was introduced, disrupting that market by making a less expensive version that eventually became accessible to almost everyone on the planet.
The the smart phone disrupted the market again by making even smaller computers with added utility accessible to the world. I myself have 4 phones and 1 LTE connected tablet in my home. By comparison, I only have 2 computers which I waited almost 8yrs to update. My smartphone on the other hand, I am no more than 2yrs between upgrades. Smartphones have been so disruptive, that iPhone revenue is more than five times that of Mac computers.
How does this translate to Helix3 being a disruptive healthcare blockchain company?
Today, personal health information is controlled by a few healthcare companies who have way too much control over it. They put it at risk daily, make access to your personal health information difficult to view and share, and they even make money off this data for which you see none.
To disrupt healthcare, Helix3 will build a data consolidator for consumer (Fitbit, AppleWatch, Insulin pumps), clinical (EMR, ePHI), and genomic (23andme) data, creating a secure version that you control. Having a complete view of your personal health information enables us to bring disruptive change in healthcare with precision preventive medicine, clinical diagnostic support tools (CDST), and even personal health AI applications.
Using the consolidated health data will enable Helix3 to deliver an mHealth application that will change the way healthcare is delivered and wellness rewards are achieved. Applications can offer health and wellness rewards using any combination of your EMR and activity data, including a new wave of Internet of Medical Things (IoMT, an evolution of IoT) to drive global, national, and regional health initiatives.
We will apply deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to create a personal digital health assistant that uses your genomic data and personal health information to recommend wellness rewards that will motivate you to live a long, and healthy life.
Existing providers will be able to deliver the most effective and timely healthcare, having access to a complete picture of their patients profile, and using innovative products and services that improve healthcare outcomes and lowering the cost of delivering services.
Helix3 will also power a new wave of advanced TeleHealth Centers that will leverage IoMT under the control of remote of a license physicians, enabling near real-time testing, results, diagnostics, and prescriptions. When data is allowed to flow in a secure and trust way, the applications become endless.
These applications will bring new technology to the masses, fulfilling a large component of a disruptive healthcare technology.
The Helix3 mHealth application that will lead the way in healthcare disruption by enabling our members to monetize their data by connecting with data consumers (research, clinical trials) who will pay for anonymized data using our cryptocurrency HLX. Members join sharing pools and are paid HLX when they data is used by a data consumer. Members can also search for data consumers that match the data in their digital twin, and selectively sell access to their data. In this healthcare blockchain use case, all shared data is de-identified or anonymized so that patient identity is protected. Access to private health information requires a different level of permissions.
HLX can be spent in our marketplace which contain health and wellness products members use frequently saving them money. Helix3 will also create sweepstakes for big ticket packages (e.g. Pelotons, Wellness Tourism packages, Healthy Meal Plans) to raise the stakes a little, and drive further participation even after specific health goals are met.
Members access the platform using a free mHealth application they will download from all major mobile app stores. Helix3 and the community will deliver subscription based services to members to allow future expansion and use of the platform.
Helix3 envisions employee wellness plans and even medical insurance companies to create their own reward programs incentivizing healthy behavior. There are numerous studies that link employee wellness to increased productivity and lower insurance premiums and Helix3 will provide a platform that will be much more difficult to game than any option available today.
Helix3 is the definition is a disruptive technology regardless of wether you use the Wikipedia or the Clayton Christensen definition. We will bring about disruptive change in healthcare while fixing some of the major symptoms of the poor health of the global healthcare system. In doing so, we will become one of the most successful healthcare blockchain startups in 2018-19.
